How to get there

Tram and Bus Lines

From the Basel SBB (Swiss) or Basel SNCF (French) railway station, take bus no. 30 in direction "Badischer Bahnhof". From the Basel Bad (German) railway station, take bus no. 30 in direction "Bahnhof SBB". Get off at the stop "Spalentor". You can see the entrance to the garden across the street looking in the direction of the bus line.

Car

From Switzerland: Take highway A2 to Basel. After «Schweizerhalle», take the left lane and the «Basel West» exit. After exiting, follow the signs for «Universitätsspital» (University hospital). These signs lead you directly to the Spalentor from where you can see the garden. From Germany: highway exit N2/3 «Badischer Bahnhof». Follow the signs for «Universitätsspital».

Parking

Since the botanical garden is located on the fringe of the old town, there is almost no parking space on the streets. The hospital parking lot Parkhaus City is 5 minutes walking distance away, but is rather expensive. We recommend that you park your car on the periphery of the city and use public transport.

Food & Information

On Sundays from 11-17 h the Association Verein Botanscher Garten beim Spalentor offers healthy snacks, drinks and icecream as well as a lot of information about the botanical garden, plants and events in the "Gartestübli" located under the white tents next to the pond.

SHOW ANSWER
SHOW QUESTION
Is the garden accessible with a wheelchair?

Wheelchair-accessible entrances are located next to the Institute building at Schönbeinstrasse 6 (use the door opener) and opposite the Spalentor tram stop of tram 3. Due to the partly historical buildings, not all greenhouses are wheelchair-accessible. Please also note that some of the garden's paths are uneven and narrow in places. We are striving to expand the garden's wheelchair accessibility and to make as many parts of the garden as possible accessible to all.
